Australian sailing club directory information
Find sailing clubs and yacht clubs in Australia for beginner sailing lessons, junior programs, club racing, crewing and social sailing. Browse local club profiles, compare membership and boat-access options, and use our practical guides to prepare for a first visit. Club details come from YouSail; confirm current activities directly with each club.
Find sailing clubs near you
Use the club directory to search by name, suburb or listed activity, then narrow by state. Compare the whole journey, including rigging and packing away. A club you can reach consistently is often more useful than a famous name you rarely visit.
State guides explain different local waters and the questions worth asking before travelling. For a local shortlist, follow our guide to finding sailing clubs near you. A listing is a starting point: check the club's own calendar for current sessions, opening times and contacts.
Sailing lessons and crewing without a boat
You do not necessarily need to buy a boat. Begin with learn-to-sail pathways, explore crewing without owning a boat, or ask about club boat access. Availability and eligibility vary; membership alone does not promise a boat or a crew position.
For families, the family club weekend guide helps coordinate arrival, supervision and collection. Returning after a break? Our return-to-sailing guide helps you discuss a supported re-entry with the club.
Compare sailing club membership and facilities
Use a club visit scorecard to separate essentials from pleasant extras. An active class, suitable training and a manageable schedule may matter more than a large clubhouse. For a boat owner, storage dimensions and launching access may decide the shortlist before hospitality enters the conversation.
Ask specific questions about changing details. Is the class sailing this season? Is storage actually available? What happens after the beginner course? Read about sailing club membership and sailing costs in Australia before comparing fees. Our first-season plan turns those answers into a realistic next step.
Know what the information means
Club records are sourced from YouSail. Editorial guides explain the choices around those records; they do not certify a club's services or replace its current instructions. Missing information means unknown, not unavailable. Photos and facilities do not establish present-day capacity.
Read how we handle sources and the disclaimer before relying on a detail that affects a booking or sailing decision. To flag a correction, use contact and include the club name and a current source. We aim to make your first conversation with a club better informed, not make the decision for you.

Common questions
Do I need to own a boat to join a sailing club in Australia?
No. Many Australian clubs offer crew registers for keelboat racing, club-owned training dinghies, introductory sailing experiences and inclusive sailing programs, all of which put you on the water without buying anything. Crewing on someone else’s keelboat is one of the most common ways adults sail regularly, where a skipper has a suitable vacancy.
How much does sailing club membership cost?
Fees vary enormously, from modest annual subscriptions at small volunteer-run clubs to substantial joining fees at large clubs with marinas and hospitality. The headline membership fee is rarely the whole cost: budget separately for boat storage, race entry, class association fees and insurance. Always ask a club for the full annual figure for your intended category rather than comparing headline numbers.
What is the difference between a yacht club and a sailing club?
In Australia the names are historical rather than technical. Some clubs called sailing clubs run large keelboat fleets, and some called yacht clubs are primarily dinghy organisations. Judge a club by its verified boat classes, racing formats, training programs and facilities rather than by the word in its name.
Where does the club information on this site come from?
Club records come from the YouSail database. The import date shows when this site received the data, not when each fact was verified. The guides and category pages on this site are editorial: they explain what terms mean and how to compare clubs, and never assert a fact about a specific club. Anything shown as "Not verified" means nobody has confirmed it either way, not that the club lacks the feature.
How club information is handled
Club listings, photos and named-club profile details are sourced from YouSail snapshots. The linked YouSail record and club website are the places to confirm what is current. We do not guess missing club facts. There are no rankings, invented ratings or paid listing positions.
